 Donation Information

Roadrunner Food Bank is a private, non-profit organization serving the state of New Mexico.  We are not a government agency and are not affiliated with federal, state or local governments.  We depend on donations - financial, food, and in-kind - to help feed thousands of hungry New Mexicans every day.

Your Gift Makes a Difference

When you give to the Food Bank, you can be sure that your gift is going to make a difference in New Mexico.  You can also feel confident that your money will be put to good use because, over the years, Roadrunner Food Bank has done a good job stretching donated funds, getting as much out of every dollar as possible.  Every dollar that you donate yields over $9 worth of usable food for someone in need.  We feel that this is an excellent return on your investment.

information about Roadrunner Food Bank

During the 2007-08 fiscal year, Roadrunner Food Bank had one of the lowest costs per pound of food distributed in the nation for the 8th year in a row.  In other words, we distribute more food for less money.  In fact, our cost ratio is better than 95% of all other food banks in the United States.*

Donations and Taxes

Roadrunner Food Bank has been classified by the federal government as a 501 (c) (3) tax-exempt organization.  This means that your donations to help support the Food Bank are tax deductible to the fullest extent of the law.  When you make a financial contribution, the Food Bank will provide you with a letter verifying your gift.  This letter is your receipt and is accepted by the IRS as a valid receipt of charitable contribution.  All one-time donations in excess of $250.00 are receipted separately as required by law.

Donations of food and in-kind gifts are handled a little differently.  When you donate food, you will receive a letter of appreciation stating the weight of the donated food.  The Food Bank is not allowed to assign a value to your food donation, but you may assign a reasonable value per pound and then submit that amount as a charitable contribution.
