ROADRUNNER FOOD BANK NEEDS VOLUNTEERS LOTS OF HELP WILL BE NEEDED TO SORT DONATIONS FOR VICTIMS OF HURRICANE KATRINA
Albuquerque, NM - September 1, 2005– Roadrunner Food Bank needs volunteers to help sort donations for victims of Hurricane Katrina. Food and other items have been donated in very large quantities by the general public, and these items must be sorted, boxed and made ready for distribution to the Gulf Coast area. The food bank will need volunteers at its location near the Albuquerque airport beginning Tuesday, September 6, 2005 at 8 a.m. The food bank is open the following hours:
“Although we have an urgent need for volunteers right now, we expect to have an increased need for volunteers through the end of the year as the food bank handles and sorts donations for the disaster in addition to its normally heavier volume during the fall months,” said Melody Wattenbarger, executive director. “We know that the public will respond with a generous gift of their time as they always do when the need it made known.” Volunteers should call 247-2052, ext. 101 to schedule the volunteer work for both individuals and groups.
