NEW FOOD REQUESTS FROM GULF COAST REGION

Roadrunner Food Bank continues to respond to disaster relief needs

Albuquerque, NM - September 13, 2005 – Roadrunner Food Bank continues to respond to disaster relief efforts for Hurricane Katrina.  The Food Bank is accepting donations of non-perishable food items and cash at its main warehouse.

“Our community continues to be generous with financial and food contributions.  The most immediate way to help continues to be a financial contribution.” said Melody Wattenbarger, Executive Director of Roadrunner Food Bank.  “As the relief efforts continue, we ask the community to donate only requested items to Roadrunner Food Bank.  Please do not donate clothing — it keeps us from being able to serve our mission of getting food to those who need it most.”

A member of America’s Second Harvest, the national hunger relief organization, Roadrunner Food Bank is coordinating statewide efforts in accepting financial, food and grocery donations for Hurricane Katrina recovery efforts.  America’s Second Harvest has indicated an urgent need for the following items:

  • Canned Foods – vegetables, fruits, canned meats, stews

  • Cereals

  • Shelf stable juices and sports beverages

  • Baby products: formula, diapers, food

  • Paper Goods and adult diapers

  • Personal hygiene products

Excluded from the list is bottled water, which is now in abundant supply.

Roadrunner Food Bank communicates daily with America’s Second Harvest on items needed in the disaster area.  Food and other non perishable items are stored by Roadrunner Food Bank until requested by America’s Second Harvest.

To make a financial donation directly, contact Roadrunner Food Bank, 247-2052, ext 120.  Roadrunner Food Bank is accepting donations and non-perishable items at its warehouse at 2645 Baylor Drive SE, near the airport.  Roadrunner Food Bank is accepting only financial contributions, food and non-perishable items.  Roadrunner Food Bank is not accepting clothing.
