ROADRUNNER FOOD BANK

SOUPER BOWL SCORES ALL TIME HIGH

Record Breaking Ticket Sales A Big Win For NM Hunger Relief

Albuquerque, NM - January 30, 2008 – Twelve-hundred tickets printed… twelve-hundred tickets sold!

That was the final record breaking score for Roadrunner Food Bank’s Souper Bowl 2008 held Saturday, January 26th, in the main warehouse at 2645 Baylor Drive SE.  The annual soup sampling spectacular attracted 29 of Albuquerque’s finest restaurants serving up delicious soups and desserts to a massive crowd of eager fans.  The popular event raised approximately $70,000 to aid hunger relief in New Mexico.

“It’s a win-win situation for everyone involved,” said Melody Wattenbarger, Roadrunner Food Bank Executive Director.  “For all the restaurants, dozens of sponsors, loads of volunteers, hundreds of guests, and most importantly the thousands of clients we serve, everybody wins.”

And the winners are… St. Clair Winery & Bistro took home the coveted People’s Choice for Best Soup award with their Peach and Roasted Orange Pepper delectable creation.

“I think the fruit did it, and it’s an easy recipe,” said St. Claire Head Chef James Duke.  “I’m honored and flattered.  All the soups were awesome.  So I’m also surprised, but very proud we won.”

Flying Star Cafés came in second for Shrimp and Crab Bisque with Corn Pudding.  Third place went to Sunshine Café for their Wild Mushroom Bisque with Chive White Truffle Oil.

Claudia Rae’s Sandwich Shop captured the first place nod for Critics’ Choice Best Soup thanks to their Smokey Tortilla Soup with Fire Roasted Tomatoes and Aroastica Chicken.  Gecko’s Bar & Tapas’ Wild Mushroom Mole Chowder touched down with second place.  Hotel Albuquerque fielded third with Coconut Milk, Roasted Chicken and Golden Raisin.

The People’s Choice Best Dessert top spot honored Theobroma Chocolatier’s Chocolate Strawberries and Truffles.  Berry Ocean snagged second with their own Gelato Italian Ice Cream in several different flavors.  Flying Star Cafés intercepted third place with a variety of Valentine’s Day-inspired flirty treats.

Cypress Grill (Embassy Suites) secured the Best Booth Decoration award.
