ROADRUNNER FOOD BANK BEGINS DIRECT FOOD DELIVERIES TO

CHAVES, EDDY, & LINCOLN COUNTIES

This month, Roadrunner Food Bank begins direct deliveries to Chaves, Eddy and Lincoln counties. The twice monthly deliveries will include fresh produce, bread, baked goods and meats as well as canned and dry food items.

Approximately 19 percent (or 25,371) of residents in these counties live at, or below the poverty level and are at risk for hunger.  In addition to increasing the amount of food distributed, Roadrunner Food Bank is focusing on increasing the number of agencies in these counties to assist with the distribution of food.  Since our announcement to the community, we have had 28 inquiries from organizations wanting to partner with the food bank!

Any non-profit organization or church interested in becoming food partners with Roadrunner is urged to contact Rebecca Rodriguez, Director of Agency Relations, at 505-247-2052 ext 115 or you can send her an EMAIL.

Help "Stamp Out Hunger" This Summer

Summer is not a happy time for many children and families in our state.  Hunger actually increases during the summer months when children are out of school.  Many families, already struggling financially, are faced with day care expenses and increased food costs.  Traditionally, summer is a time that food banks see financial contributions and food donations drop off.

You can help Stamp out Hunger on Saturday, May 12th.  Postal Carriers across Albuquerque will pick up food that has been left at mailboxes.  Please look for your grocery sack in the Albuquerque Journal on May 9th.

You can also drop off food at any area Smith’s Food and Drug location from Monday, May 7th until Wednesday, May 16th.

Watch KOB-Channel 4 or listen to KRST 92.3FM or KOB-FM 93.3 for more information how you can help.

Volunteers are needed at area post offices to unload and sort food collected by the Letter Carriers.  Volunteers are needed from 2:00pm until approximately 6:30pm.

To volunteer for the food drive, please contact Patty Gillis, Director of Volunteer Services, at 505-247-2052 ext 101 or send her an EMAIL.
