Our Coalition To End Hunger

Roadrunner’s Coalition to End Hunger is an initiative of Roadrunner Food Bank. It is committed to empowering allies and advocates who can help give a voice to overlooked communities. Its purpose is to connect groups and organizations who serve people facing hunger and poverty while encouraging those with lived experiences to share their story to advocate for public policy change. Roadrunner’s Coalition strives to provide support, train, establish advocacy opportunities, and engage the group’s stakeholders to ensure the food and nutrition security of all New Mexicans.

Roadrunner’s Coalition invites organizations, community members, advocates, and groups to join in. There are three coalition member categories including joining as an individual, an agency member, or collaborative member.  There is no fee to join, but a commitment to actively attend meetings, participate in discussions, activate around the issue of hunger, and be a part of the solution.

Roadrunner Coalition Sub-Committees

Currently, there are three active sub-committees working as part of the larger coalition to perform and carry out its goals. They include:

BLUEPRINT TO END HUNGER

The subcommittee literally creates a “blueprint” or report about hunger in New Mexico to be rolled out in the fall of 2025.

SNAP ADVOCACY

A subcommittee that works throughout the year to elevate the importance of SNAP as well as identify opportunities for a strong nutrition program.

HUNGER ACTION DAY

This sub-committee plans and implements the SECOND Hunger Action Day at the Roundhouse during the 2025 session.

Why Coalitions are Important and Why they are Formed

  • To address an urgent situation

  • To empower elements of the community – or the community as a whole

  • To obtain or provide services

  • To bring about more effective, efficient, and unified delivery of programs

  • To pool resources

  • To increase communication among groups and break down stereotypes

  • To revitalize sagging energies of members or groups trying to do too much alone

  • To create long-term, permanent social change
