Employment is empowerment, and we believe the food bank is uniquely situated to provide job training for individuals who may have difficulty securing work without aid. By offering tools and resources for employment, we help New Mexicans avoid or escape hardship and food insecurity.
Who Qualifies to Participate in the Job Training Program?
- Justice involved individuals reentering the community

- Those with disabilities
- Displaced workers reentering the workforce
- Adults entering the workforce for the first time
The program introduces individuals to the experience of working in a dynamic commercial warehouse setting with the added benefits of peer mentorship and case management. By offering case management, the food bank hopes to help participants address and overcome common barriers and deterrents to work. Participants benefit by learning new transferable skills and developing an employment history while contributing to the food bank’s mission to provide nourishing food to New Mexicans in need. Interns are paid a weekly stipend to help with expenses while they earn forklift, OSHA, and food safety certifications or gain experience behind the wheel of one of our many semi-trucks.
All candidates undergo a background check and interview process to determine their eligibility, motivation, and commitment to completing the program. Upon graduation, the food bank assists interns with permanent employment either at the food bank or with employer partners in the community. Full-time warehouse specialists at Roadrunner can further their employability with free CDL training through the food bank’s partnership with CNM Ingenuity. Our CDL Experience Program provides new drivers with hands-on, over-the-road experience with our transportation team.
